Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest in distributing the Eucharist during Mass. Extraordinary Ministers can also assist in bringing the Eucharist on a regular basis to the sick of the parish, both at home and in nursing homes. Extraordinary Ministers are commissioned and trained in our parish after having first participated in a diocesan-led training.
Diocesan training takes place at various times and at various parishes. Contact Cheryleat the Parish Center with any questions you may have about becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
Homebound: Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion carry Christ in the Eucharist to members of the parish who are unable to attend Mass because of an illness or infirmity. The Holy Eucharist is brought to those parishioners every Sunday after the 10 a.m. Mass, as well as Christmas. These ministers will bring the weekly church bulletin and, when appropriate, they will bring palms. One must be trained as an Extraordinary Minister in order to minister to the homebound.
Hospital: St. Peter Church is responsible for bringing the Holy Eucharist to all Catholic patients in Elyria Memorial Hospital on the fourth (4th) Sunday of the month. One must be trained as an Extraordinary Minister in order to minister to the patients at Elyria Memorial.
Nursing Home: Extraordinary Ministers of Communion take the Holy Eucharist to the residents of O'Neill Healthcare and to NorthRidge. One must be trained as an Extraordinary Minister in order to minister to the Nursing Homes.
